Finally got to go on a belated Valentine's Day dinner!  Had to postpone twice since Brian had a work trip and then Ethan was sick.

Rock Climbing Party

This year Gavin wanted to do the indoor rock climbing for his birthday.  So he invited a friend, Jolie to join him at Vertical Rock.  They all had fun although it was a lot harder than they had thought.  The kids left with some sore backs, legs and arms.

They did it!
Lunch and ice cream at Chick-Fil-A!

Ethan's Sickness

Ethan came down with the flu on Friday and Saturday so he stayed home from school.  Then he was fine Sunday and Monday.  But oddly came down with a fever again, a lump on his throat, tiredness and no appetite.  He kept asking to go to bed super early and sleeping in until late, which is unusual for Ethan.  He was so bummed he had to miss his class' "Fairy Tale Ball" play that he is a part of.

Anyway after thinking through his symptoms, I realized that his mono (from 4 years ago) acted up again.  You can read about it here.  Didn't think he could have it again, but apparently you can.

Boys Day Out

It's President's Day which means the boys have no school.  Brian took off since I had to work.  But I had this to look forward to when I got  home:
Lunch at McAllister's Deli
On their way to watch Ferdinand

Door and Hardware Institute

Every time the topic of "When both boys are in school, you're going to have to get a job" comes up, I would have major anxiety just even thinking about it.  So what do I do?  Not think about it.

Then Fall 2017 arrived and the time has come.  Gavin was off to Kindergarten which meant no more procrastination.  I took a month off before buckling down and getting my resume together.  The whole process of applying and interviewing were painful and discouraging at times.  I felt like I kept hitting a wall because it was going nowhere.  Yet, I pushed through and kept telling myself to "just put one foot in front of the other."  And trusting the God has something for me.  Well, He sure did!

Here's the timeline with my job at Door and Hardware Institute (DHI):
  • February 1st - applied on indeed.com
  • February 2nd - phone interview to see if it's a good fit for both parties
  • February 5th - in person interview
    • received and accepted an offer that night
  • February 12th - 1st day at work
Not only did God made the the process go really fast, He also met ALL of my job requirements (and more!):
  • part-time with flexibility - I can still drop off/pick up from school
  • at least $20/hr
  • close to home
  • admin. assistant with possibility of using my graphic design skills
  • not having to bring work home
  • good personality chemistry with my boss and co-workers

Here's the "and more" part:
  • $22/hr
  • paid one week vacation
  • paid extra week vacation between Christmas and New Year
  • if the office is closed (for national holidays or whatever reasons) and I'm scheduled to work, then I'll get paid.
God reminded me that "He is bigger than my list" and what a huge blessing it has been!

Snow/Cold Day #6

No school today due to forecast of light sleet and freezing rain...which we got none of.  So I took the boys to the library instead and then took Kaika to the vet.

Superbowl LII

So, we were going to have a few people over from small group but my cold took a turn for the worse...so we had to cancel.  Ethan went from super excited to super devastated.  I felt really bad since everyone at church were talking about going to some sort of party.  So I mustered up some energy and decided, "You know what?  We are going to have our own party!"  I got the boys to color some pages and help gather some decors.  Ethan got so into it that he was coming up with names for the football food themed.  It turned out to be pretty fun!

-"Football Lemons" - Lemons
-"League Shrimps" - Cocktail Shrimps
-"Football Snap" - Snapple
-Popcorn
-Chips and Queso
-BBQ Meatballs

Getting to Know You

Instead of the ordinary "How Are you?" - Two alternative questions to ask your spouse daily:

1) What would you like to be acknowledged for?
2) What would you like me to know about your life?
