Ethan's 4th Grade & Gavin's 1st Grade

We had an AMAZING and full summer this year with lots of adventures!!  So as we wrapped up this season, there was more excitement than sadness in the air.  New shoes, new lunchboxes...the boys were ready to go!

Ethan was a little anxious with the new routine.  He wanted me to walk him to class and pick him up at the main door at the end of the day.
Gavin, on the other hand, didn't even want me to walk him to class.  But I insisted...for my own emotional state.
The teachers are doing something different this year with flexible seating and essentially letting them sit where they're comfortable and would be most creative.  Hey, anything is better than Gavin's last year - he sat in the exact same spot the entire year.  Not kidding.

Ethan's 1st Grade Fun Run

I decided to go in and have lunch with Ethan and wow, were there lots of energy in the cafeteria!  I don't remember it being THIS loud last year.  I guess the kids were super excited for what's to come later that afternoon - The Fun Run!  Because it rained, they had to move the whole thing into the gym.  Lights were off, the path were lined with colorful LED lights and the music was cranked up.  It was a little crammed and hot, but they made it work.  The boys got to go first and then the girls.  Ethan ran 35 laps and had a blast!

Ethan's 1st Grade

The week we were at the wedding, Ethan had missed the Welcome Walk (where the teacher comes to our house to let introduce herself)and also the school supplies drop off (how he finds out his classroom).  So he was pretty nervous about the whole first day thing.  Thankfully my sweet friend from MOPS asked her husband who is Ethan's assistant principal to do us a huge favor.  He sent a picture of his teacher, Mrs. Giostra and a video tour of exactly where he needed to go.  That helped with the first day of school jitters and made him super excited to go!

Caitlyn is in the same class and same table as Ethan again which is a good and bad thing.  Last year, they saw each other 6x/week (5 days at school and 1 day at church) that it became a love/hate relationship.  So, this year Ethan decided to take things into his own hand and had a serious conversation with her that went something along the line of "please be nice to me and I will be nice to you."  And they made a deal!
