What a glorious 70 degree day!  Went to a job interview this morning and took Kaika for a walk this afternoon.  It truly lifted my spirit. 

Winter Storm Jonas

aka Blizzard 2016 is here and the whole entire NoVA is paralyzed.  Technically the craziness had started three days ago when we got less than two inches of snow.  Apparently, everyone was so focused on the big storm that they didn't salt the road thinking it was no big deal.  Well, it was a big deal because the roads were sheets of ice and there were accidents galore!  Anyway, Ethan only made it to school for one day this week because of the holiday + teacher's workday and then cancellation the rest of the week. 

The boys have already been outside to play three times in less than 24 hours and are loving it.  I wasn't gonna go out, but they looked like they were having so much fun I had to join them.  Surprisingly it hasn't been too bad with both of them home as they've been entertaining each other and playing together nicely.  Praise the Lord!

Can't.take.it.any.more.  After being home bound with two boys for 8 days straight (minus one day of school last week) and another 2 hour delay today.  I'm ready to pull out my hair!

It has been f-f-f-freezing cold this week and hardly enjoyable getting Gavin in and out of the car.  He hates the cold, but he also hates his coat =0(

Mamma failure today: didn't put Ethan in his winter coat or pack his hat and gloves.  He was freezing outside during recess.  Oops sorry buddy!  My bad.

Pax Day 2

We got an additional 2 inches the next morning so outside we went again.  Gavin is so out of his element in the snow that he doesn't know what to do.  So whatever Ethan does, he just copies him.

Unfortunately, the rest of the day wasn't so good.  Gavin had fluid draining out both of his ears and constantly screaming in pain which could only mean one thing - ear infection again.  Almost exactly a year to the date.  I started panicking because I couldn't get a hold of the ENT or anyone.  Then I remembered the antibiotic drops that could be put directly into his ears because of the tubes.  Thankfully it worked and we didn't have to go into the Dr.

I thought it was ironic that the weather man in VA considered 30 degrees to be "frigid" but the weather man in IA considered 30 degrees to be "warming up."

We recently got back from IA (more on that later) and I was down and out with the flu for 3 days.  Now Ethan has it.  But on the upside of things: 71 degree for the high today.

Winter is Here

You would think it's Christmas morning again for Ethan. The excitement (of the first snow) and the begging (to go play outside). This morning we bravely ventured out to meet a friend for a play date. However, I soon realized that the roads aren't in the greatest condition and that we probably should've stayed home. Oh well. We got out and Ethan had fun playing somewhere new. Now he's suited up and already outside...by himself. It's pretty stinking cold out so I told him he can go play for a little bit but without me. Kaika didn't even want to go out. We have small group tonight, but we'll see. I don't really want to go out again...

I don't ever remember a mild winter like this the whole 7 years I lived here. No snow and continuous sunshiny days (so far anyways). Love it!

Try Try Again

So now that the frigid weather is officially upon us, I've been finding it harder and harder to get out of the house. Last week we were home quite a bit and I could tell Ethan was getting antsy and having cabin fever. What is there to do in the winter with an outdoor child? Anyway, I took him to McDonald's play land. But instead of playing, he just sat in the booth with me and ate his snack like the whole time. Okay...

Same scenario this week. So today I decided to take him to River's Edge where you can pay $3 for kids to play on the indoor turf. First of all, we were the only one there. Second of all, there wasn't hardly any toys to play with. But hey the whole thing lasted about an hour and a half and Ethan seemed to have fun. He got to run around and get his energy out so I guess that's all that matter. Don't know if we'll go again, but it was sufficient for today. Mission accomplished I supposed.

p.s. Now here's an idea: a place that actually has a full indoor play ground. I would definitely pay for a membership.

Dream Come True

Everyday for the past month Ethan has been asking me questions or making comments like:

"Where's the snow?"
"I wanna make a snowman."
"Do you like snow, Mamma?" and even though I said no, he makes an attempt to convince me that I do.
"I don't want it to melt." & "I want it to stay longer."

Well, we woke up this morning to let Kaika out and what do you know? Snow on the ground. We had to go to Bible Study first but now that we're home, you can guess where Ethan's at? Yup, outside in his full winter gear eating lots and lots of snow.

So, the frigid cold weather has been unbearable lately. And I couldn't help but think back to this time last year when we were in FL.

Storm of the Season

Just when I've had it with winter, they forecast 10-14" of snow and the worst blizzard since 1979. Great. Here we go.

White Stuff from the Sky

So today we have our first official snow. And being the awesome mom that I am, I bundled both of us up to go play outside. I know, shocking isn't it since usually I don't want anything to do with snow (other than watching it from the inside) ;0) But I couldn't say no to that excited look in Ethan's eyes. So outside we went and we had fun! Minus the fact that Ethan won't keep his mitten on and Kaika kept stealing and flinging them around. Anyway, I'm proud to say that for the first time in 6 years I finally own a waterproof gloves and boots. I supposed they're winter necessities.
