In three days we went from an emotional high of buying a house to an emotional low of yesterday. All because someone broke into our house. Yes, you read that right. And it is the crappiest feeling...
Brian headed to the house at one o'clock yesterday to let the flooring people in. It was over his lunch hour so it was going to be a quick thing. As it turned out, someone had busted through our basement sliding door, tripped the power, went through our boxes and left through the main floor sliding door. Nothing was taken because there wasn't anything valuable in those boxes. However the rest of the day, Brian had to deal with the cops who came to the house to fill out a report, dust for finger prints and shoe prints; give directions to the flooring people; pick up the gazillion pieces of broken glass and then patch up the door. Thankfully, he was able to call up a friend who put up a piece of plywood for the time being. Now we need to call a glass company and see if we can get a replacement without having to replace the entire door, which is going to be about $1000. Ugh, as if we don't have enough on our to do/to fix list already. What an awful day! Seven hours later, Brian finally came home...exhausted!
Anyway, the weirdest part of all is that we're 99.9% sure we saw the person who did it (which we didn't know at the time). But on Sunday morning, the whole family headed to the house again since Brian wanted to check the leaky garage roof with the downpour we were getting and fix flaky garage door opener. As we were getting ready to leave, some guy in a black pick up truck drove by, stopped across the street and just stared into the garage. Brian turned to look at him and he didn't even flinched and a few minutes later, he just drove off. We thought it was odd but didn't think much more after that. Well apparently according to the neighbor, she heard something at 2 am (aka broken door), tried to listen but didn't hear anything else and went back to bed.
Honestly, I hate the thought that this had happened to us. My mind start questioning our safety...what if I'm home alone with the kids and Brian's out of town, etc. All the neighbors said it's a "safe" neighborhood and that they haven't really known anything like that happening around there. We've been told that we're been targeted and this is most likely a one time incident. Anyway, so many thoughts going through my head as you can imagine:
-The one thing that gives me comfort is knowing that Our God of the Universe had allowed this to happen. He could have prevented it if he wanted to but He did not for whatever reason.
-And also something I've heard a long time ago, we live in a broken world so bad things do happen.
-I guess it could have been worse...everyone's safe and it didn't happen while we were living there.
-I will not let Satan steal our joy.
Well we're moving up the moving date so that it won't be sitting vacant much longer. In the mean time, our friends who live nearby will be going over everyday to check on the house and make sure it's okay. This will definitely take some time to get pass...
