Newport

Labor Day this year we headed to Kentucky for our mini vacation. Originally we were going to bring Ethan but after REALLY thinking it through, we weren't sure how it was going to work out. 7 hour car ride with an antsy toddler sounds anything but fun. Thankfully, we worked it out with Brian's sister and he spent 2 nights playing and hanging out with his cousins. Anyway, what a peaceful and quiet drive we had! I must have forgotten what that was like. And for the record, we still can do a long road trip (just not with Ethan).

Saturday night, we went shopping and ate dinner at one of my fav places Bonefish Grill. We met up with John & Krissy, our honeymoon friends afterwards and had about 6 years worth of catching up. What a great time!

Sunday morning, we headed to the Creation Museum with Zac & Jenn, our friends from eastern Ohio who came to see us. Later that evening, we headed downtown for the fireworks despite the rain in the forecast. We were in the clear until about an hour before when it down poured and we all "toughed" it out in our ponchos. Thankfully, it stopped right before and the show went on!!! And despite the smokiness and being hard to see at times, it was still one of the best firework displays I've seen. Normally I probably wouldn't have enjoyed this craziness, but it wasn't so bad with good company =0)

Before the rain

After the rain - rockin' the wet look

p.s. Having 2 nights away was our first and it.was.awesome! We did whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted without having to check the clock and work around nap time, meal time or potty time! Thanks again Mandy & Ellis, the time away was a huge blessing!
